Individual Days - Czechia
Travel
The day finally came to embark on our European adventure. We boarded the train near our house and headed to DFW airport. After a quick check-in and pass through security, we headed to a lounge to relax until boarding time.
It is recommended to arrive a few days early to recover from jet lag, but that isn’t the only benefit of arriving early. Traveling early provides peace of mind in the event of flight delays or missed connections.
We were a little nervous about our connection through Frankfurt because we had no boarding pass and no way to check-in from the states. However, we found Frankfurt Airport very well organized, although extremely spread out. Boarding passes were not required to go through security. Maybe this was because we came from a connecting flight.
After passport control and security, we were able to obtain our boarding passes at the gate.
K+K Hotel Central Prague
Martin, the driver arranged by the hotel, was waiting at the airport when we landed. After a short drive, we were checked into our room.
The K+K Hotel Central is located in a beautiful art nouveau building just a few minutes walk to the Powder Tower and Municipal House. Our room was on the 6th floor (7th floor for Americans) with views over the rooftops towards the Old Town Bridge Tower. Thankfully, there were elevators including a beautiful glass elevator.
Strolling through Old Town
As we started exploring, we had been awake for over 24 hours and felt a little like zombies, but the weather was perfect – warm and sunny.
The weather forecast for the next few days included clouds and rain so we wasted no time discovering Prague’s Old Town.
The city of Prague is divided into neighborhoods. Old Town (Staré Město) is the historic heart of the city.
Havelské Market
This small market was established in 1232. Most of the stalls offered produce or tourist souvenirs.
Old Town Square
St. Nicholas Church
Old Town Bridge Tower
With rain in the forecast showed, we decided to climb the Old Town Bridge Tower for great aerial views of St. Charles Bridge and Prague neighborhoods on the west side of the Vltava River.
Bubble Point View Bar
When searching the internet for best views of Prague, I came across the popular Instagram spot – Bubble Point View on the Terrace of the Hotel U Prince. Fortunately, a little research helped us locate the entrance. First, go into the hotel, pass the front desk, and walk to the back. Next, take the elevator up to the top floor. Last, walk up more stairs and you’ve made it.
If you want to eat, there is a restaurant, but if you tell them you just want drinks, they will take you to the area with the most amazing views of Prague.
After ordering our drinks, we waited in a short line between Instagram influencers to get these amazing pictures.
Restaurace Mincovna
Restaurance Mincovna had been highly recommended by our Prague tour guides as well as blogs and online reviews for traditional Czech food. What a fabulous introduction to Prague!
We shared an appetizer of Pečené klobásy – 3 different grilled sausages. Next, Mark had the Traditional Beef Goulash served with onion and potato dumplings. I opted for the Svíčková na smetaně – Sirloin in cream sauce with Karlovy Vary dumplings, marinated cranberries, and vegetable puree sauce.
Valérie, the sommelier, recommended a great Czech wine from Moravia.
Prague at Night
We took the long, scenic route back to the hotel. Now time to finally get some sleep for our visit to the Bohemian-Saxon Switzerland National Park.
We walked 6.1 miles today.
