After a wonderful time at the beach, it was time to say arrivederci to Italy and grüezi to Switzerland. We embarked on a seven-hour bus ride to get to Mürren. Along the way, we made a pit stop in Bellinzona, Switzerland. Attached to the service station was a great cafeteria, Marché. Outdoor seating provided a view of the grazing cows.
We made another stop to get a group photo at Chälrütirank viewpoint in Lungern, Switzerland.
Our bus could not drive directly to the Swiss mountain village of Mürren so we arrived in Stechelberg.
We gathered our luggage and boarded a gondola to Gimmelwald where we switched gondolas and arrived in Mürren. There was a lot of construction at the gondola stations. The future gondola system will be faster and transport more people directly from Stechelberg to Mürren. The village of Gimmelwald fears the bypass will greatly affect their tourism.
We checked into our room (#213) at the Hotel Edelweiss.
We had a short break before our group dinner, so we walked around outside the hotel. The view was stunning.
At the hotel restaurant, we had a three-course meal including Salat mit Bauchspeck (salad with bacon), Rindsfiilet-Spitzen, Spätzli, Brokkoli (beef filet cubes, flour dumplings, broccoli), and Streuselkuchen mit Schokoladenglacé (crumble cake with chocolate ice cream).
We only walked 3 miles today, but we are saving up for tomorrow. The weather looks good, so we plan on hiking in the Alps.
